Rainbows & Storms Game Review

This is the make your own board game kit from Griddly Games. Simply design, stick & play. With over 200 embellishments you can create your own chutes and ladders style game but where the rainbows bring you up and the storms take you down. The kit comes with rewritable chance cards and an erasable marker, so that every game is a new experience. This game can be used in educational settings as well. The common core standards can be incorporated into game play.

Our Experience
Summer vacation have officially started and with so many hours to fill! This creative game is being enjoyed by all three of my boys. My youngest, who is four, was the most excited to design the game. He needed a little help pealing the stickers off the sheets. Some stickers didn't quite make it on the square, so fortunately they are moveable even after they have been placed. There are lots of stickers, and I'm sure we will add even more as we play. We might even make a card that says 'add a sticker to the board'. The cards are also erasable so we can change them as often as we like. Some of our cards read 'move forward 2+1= spaces' (a little math practice) and 'do 5 jumping jacks' (burn off some of that energy!), the possibilities are endless. Two things that could be improved in my opinion are having a larger game board. The board felt small with all four of us playing. The other thing is that some of the sticker sheets were folded. The stickers that were on the crease don't lay flat so they are more likely to be pulled off or stick to the game pieces. Overall, this is a fun activity that can be made fresh by changing a few sticker and cards.
