Let's Learn to Read Collection Review

About Rock 'N Learn Let's Learn to Read
Let's Learn to Read is a series of 10 DVDs and optional activities that provide a fun way for kids to build reading skills, from beginners through second grade. Entertaining music, humorous characters, and engaging stories help learners stay focused. By covering phonics rules and sight words, this collection offers the best of both worlds. And it's sequentially paced to work well with 80 free worksheets. Learners move on from one DVD to another, as they are ready.
Phonics skills include vowels, consonants, blends, digraphs, diphthongs, silent consonants, rule breakers, and more. Over 170 sight words help build speed and accuracy for the most common words used in children's literature.

Our Experience
Mr. C is four years old and is on the verge or learning to read. He recognizes most of his letters, but has some difficulty knowing the sounds each one makes. This set of DVDs is just what he needs to boost him to the next level. Now he is working on rhyming words, blends at the beginning and ends of words, common sight words, and CVC words and much more! I like that some of the segments show a close up of a mouth saying the word or sounds. This helps him form the words and get the correct pronunciation. The DVDs are engaging enough that my other two boys (7 and 9) sat down to watch as well. After the first disk he asked to watch another. We have watched one to two each day. At about 30 minute each, I especially like having them on while I'm cooking dinner. One small feature that I really appreciate is that the DVD starts automatically without going to a 'start' screen. There are also 80+ additional printable worksheets to reinforce the learning that has taken place. As an adult, the early 90's animation style is amusing, but the kids seem to enjoy it. Overall, this seems like a comprehensive program that is giving him a good foundation for reading success.

  7. Looks like a great help for children learning to read. I remember when my little sister was learning, she also had a hard time remembering all the sounds to match the letters. Something like this dvd set would help any kid trying to learn.

  8. My daughter used something similar to these when she was little. I would love to have these for my granddaughter. She has a speech impediment and anything video wise not only teachers her but also tends to help with her speech a lot.
